چکیده
Descartes, beden ile ruhun birbirine bağlı olduğunu ancak bu iki tözün birbirinden bütünüyle farklı düşünmekteydi. Zeki öğrencisi Bohemya Prensesi Elizabeth, buradaki problemi fark etmekte gecikmedi. Prenses 1643 yılında Descartes’a yazmış olduğu bir mektupta, “Bu şey birbiriyle uyumsuz görünüyor,” dedi ve Descartes’dan günümüze kadar filozoflar arasında sürecek olan hararetli tartışmanın ilk kıvılcımını ateşledi. Günümüzde Descartes’ın ileri sürdüğü ruh-beden1 düalizminin hem teist de ateist savunuları yapılmaktadır. Richard Swinburne kitabında düalizminden hareketle kendi zihin teorisini, yani nitelik düalizmini temellendirmektedir. Kitabı hacimce küçük olmasına karşın, araştırmanın konusu olacak ölçüde detaylıdır. Biz ise burada, Swinburne’ün teorisini tartışmaktan ziyade kitabın değerlendirmesini yapmayı hedefledik.
